These Antique white heart beads are increasingly rare and are also known as Cornaline d'Allepo, or "Allepo Agate." They have been traded globally since the 15th century. The name "white hearts" comes from the fact that the beads have a core made of white glass, which is then encased in red glass. In ancient times, the only way to produce red glass was by infusing it with gold. To enhance its opacity, the red glass was wound around the white core.
The technique was first developed around 1480, the origin of these beads is unknown, though they are believed to date from the 19th to 20th century.
French beads, which were traded to Africa, date back as far as the 1500s, while Venetian white heart beads were produced in Italy between the late 1800s and early 1920s.
Please note that this piece of jewellery is made with silk cord, offering a luxurious, soft feel. However, like all fabrics, the silk cord may show signs of wear over time with frequent use.
To preserve the condition of your jewellery, I highly recommend avoiding contact with hard surfaces and removing it for activities such as swimming, gardening, cleaning, sleeping, and exercising.
By wearing your jewellery thoughtfully, rather than continuously throughout all activities, you’ll help ensure it lasts for years to come.
